What's In A Name??

Lately, the most asked question of me has been “What is a Sword Lily?”. It takes a little background but my business name, Sword Lily, has been a long-time coming.

My love for the symbol of the fleur-de-lis goes back as far as I can remember. To me, it represents beauty, grace and a timeless aesthetic. When I moved away from my home state of Louisiana, at 25, I adopted it as my life symbol. I love to collect items designed as a fleur-de-lis or with different styles or designs.

Later, I did some research on the fleur-de-lis discovering, it has been used for centuries to represent the configuration of the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Deeply rooted and raised in a Christian home and heritage, that symbolism made the fleur-de-lis even more important as a reminder of my faith.

Being a symbol of my faith, aesthetic and history, it was the first thing I thought of when God laid the desire on my heart, over a year ago, to open my own marketing business. I immediately knew I didn’t want to use fleur-de-lis as the name itself but to keep the symbolism, I began researching even more about the fleur-de-lis.

As you may know fleur means flower in French, the fleur-de-lis has been used to represent several flowers most prominently the lily but also the gladiola or as it is rarely called a Sword Lily. The minute I saw that as a synonym for fleur-de-lis, my heart leapt.

As you probably know, if you have read this far, I loved to write - the pen being mightier than the sword and all. Combine that with the Lily -with its clean lines but strong foundation and it was perfect.

Hence Sword Lily Marketing, LLC was born (in theory). I say, in theory, because it took another year of God hints, a lot of encouragement from my husband, Jonathan and a few good swift kicks in the backside before I put more than ideas in motion.

Last Wednesday, I set up my computer in an office beside Jonathan’s in the Axis Wealth Planning building on a beautiful new desk that I designed and he crafted for me. It really is a marvel but that is a topic for another day. I filled out my LLC paperwork, my business license paperwork, my operating agreement – all before it began to snow hard and heavy.

There will be lots more to come from Sword Lily Marketing, LLC as it grows into its own and I am sure I will write about the peaks and valleys along the way. Thanks for taking this journey with me as we bring together -grace, style and exceptional modern marketing to businesses, non-profits and religious organizations.
